'Hero' barber rushed to Helen Haines's aid | ABC NEWS

Barber Ricky Jefferies rushed to Helen Haines's aid after she was "attacked" near her electorate office in "attacked" near her electorate office in Wangaratta yesterday afternoon.

Mr Jefferies said he felt "humbled … grateful and blessed to have been here to help".

"The other people here were just, they did so much more than me … they deserve the credit," he says.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the car that struck Haines did a U-turn in order to hit the Indi MP.

The PM is leading cross-party condemnation of the incident, as he reveals counter-terrorism police are investigating.

Victoria Police said a 43-year-old Tarrawingee man was arrested at the scene of the incident.
