The threats women in public-facing positions receive | ABC NEWS

In the wake of the alleged attack on Indi MP Helen Haines, Sex Discrimination Commissioner Anna Cody says she doesn't think there are any women in public office who haven't received threats.

"We know that women experience a higher level of threats, of abuse. It is often sexual in nature, and that is a real disincentive for women joining and becoming a part of the democratic process," Dr Cody says.
